Texas Business Foundations Program

The Texas Business Foundations Program (Texas BFP) is a certificate program in the Red McCombs School of Business designed to give undergraduate students of any discipline a fundamental background in business. It is one of the largest and widely recognized certificate and minor programs at The University of Texas. There have been some slight variations to coursework, so please read all information carefully. 

Business Foundations Certificate

  • Open only to UT students enrolled in the 2014 - 2016 or earlier Academic Catalog 
  • Complete 24 credit hours any time while completing your undergraduate degree
  • Satisfy certificate requirements with classes that may also count towards your UT degree
  • In-person and web-based classes available available  available

Business Minor

  • Only open to UT students enrolled in the 2016 - 2018 and later Academic Catalog
  • Complete 18 credit hours any time while completing your undergraduate degree
  • Slight variation to the general Business Foundations Certificate coursework with multiple options for completion

McCombs Summer Institute for Business Foundations 

  • Open to any student enrolled at any accredited college or university
  • Complete 15 credit hours (5 courses) over 9 weeks during the summer
  • Great option for completing a majority of your BFP coursework quickly and efficiently
  • Applications open Oct. 1; all students will have to apply to be accepted into the Summer Institute
